That is simply not true. You choose to be where you are in many ways. Simple appliances still exist, and simple thermostats still exist, hell if you had a man card you would know how to jumper the thermostat to make your AC run.

People complain about tech but they rarely add up the time it has saved them when it eventually fails them. Vacuum tube TVs died, and cars without ECUs failed to run correctly far more often than today's cars.

I'm a child of the 70s and if you offered me an Xbox One and a flat panel 4k TV in exchange for my Atari 2600 and 13" TV even if the former was more finicky I would have taken it in a second. Just pick and choose tech wisely and for something like a router that fails keep a cheap backup. People love to complain about tech but the reality is if you stripped them of it (which they could do themselves if they weren't just bitching to bitch) they would have a fit.
