What makes you think he isn't running for office?

His rapid decline in health.

The democrats ran FDR in 1944 despite him being on death's doorstep. The Republicans ran Reagan in '84 despite him starting to show signs of Alzheimers. Both parties do not care about the health of their candidate. They just care about their candidate being able to win. Besides the democrats are too invested in the diversity game to run Newsome. They know that if Biden is reelected he will not be able to finish his term and Kamala will become the first Madame President.

1944 was the height of WWII so changing Presidents wasn't a viable option so that's not a good example. Reagan still looked great in '84 and was only 73, it was only very late in his Presidency when he was Trump's age now that he started to show signs.

Trump's father died of Alzheimers btw and his 2 brothers have died of natural causes already at younger ages than he is now. Time always wins.

Really? It was only not a viable option for the democrats from an election standpoint. They knew that FDR would not make it through the end of the term and probably not the end of WW2 and that is why they replaced Henry A. Wallace who was VPOTUS in FDR's first 3 terms with Harry Truman. If it was about winning the war and not just about keeping the Presidency then there were plenty of people who could have stepped in and FDR's Secretary of State Cordell Hull.

Reagan looked great in '84 but aides did start noticing signs of memory problems. He did not really start showing signs until late '86 but he was showing them in '84 as well.
