espn did a segment on this earlier in the year when singletary (however you spell his name) took over for the 49ers. the "mean" or "emotional" coaches were less successful than the laid back coaches by a good margin. im not saying the players couldn't use a good yelling at but thats where the assistant coaches come it such as a lively dc.

He's a friend...and a coach. He's also a lover, not a fighter.

I wasn't gonna bring it up, but this is a good example of a bandwagon fan.

You can't go blowing up on a player everytime they mess up or even sometimes. Especially during a game. How is that motivating? That certainly is not going to make a kid play any harder. What if when you were at work and you messed on something the boss comes in and in front of everybody starts yelling at you. You seriously think that will make you want to do it better? Most people will shut it down. Yes there are times when different measures are required but when you coach and teach kids what they are doing wrong and how to correct it they are more than likely to respond than if you are demeaning them and yelling all of the time. Just get annoying.

the game is more often won on the practice field than the stadium and the coaches can kick a** there .. tackling, fundamentals etc and mental preparation are needed before the game, not in it -- it's too late then.

You may not need to be a screamer, but having a big fricking smile on your face when you're losing a football game and your defense can't stop anyone is not what people want to see.
