Kehlenbrink posted a 5-1 record as a junior with a 3.11 ERA in 27 innings pitched. He led the Patriots with 59 strikeouts, and his strikeout average of 15.3 was third best in the area behind Winfield's Colin Morse (17.71) and Timberland's Adam Hachman (16.06).

After Kehlenbrink committed to LSU, former pitching coach Wes Johnson — now the head coach at the University of Georgia — asked Kehlenbrink if he knew what made him so good on the mound.

"I thought it was because I throw hard, but he's like no," Kehlenbrink said. "That's when he brought up the IVB (induced vertical break) and it being so hard."

While at multiple camps in front of scouts, Kehlenbrink discovered the IVB on his four-seamer had over 20 inches of vertical break.

According to Baseball America, a pitcher who can reach 20 inches or more of IVB is considered to have elite movement.
