We all have contributed to this. When SEC fans yell "SEC" "SEC" at the Outback Bowl and the SEC uses that chant and with phrase it just means more it contributes. As an LSU fan I want LSU to win the national championship and be in one of the best conferences and get respect and recognization all around the world. If you are a fan or alumnus of an SEC school you can't complain about poor old Oregon State and yet claim Vandy would go 9-3 in another conference or that Miss. State and Starkville are so important to college football.
Tradition and what made college football so special ended when Roy Kramer added Arkansas and South Carolina so he could have 12 teams and two divisions and have a championship game.
It surely ended when they started the BCS and Bowl Coalition in an attempt to screw over the Rose Bowl and the Big Ten and Pac Ten.
You can pine for the days when the SEC champ played in the Sugar Bowl and the SWC champ played in the Cotton Bowl and the Big 8 champ played in the Orange Bowl and those three bowls worked to get the best at-large team and try to have a national championship game. But so many of us wanted a true national championship and want to brag to our friends about our school.
