I used goldfish, especially the fancy fantailed goggle eyes kind, when I lived in Oklahoma. The clear lakes in north east and central OK made them effective for bank fishing. Caught all kinds of bass and other stuff.
Biggest crappie I ever caught was on a fancy goldfish up there. Could fit a beer can in his mouth easily. (I don’t carry scales)
