It's pretty clear they went for a superstar (Mahomes) and middle of the road guy trying to get over the hump (Cousins) and a come back/underdog story (Mariota).
This season they have Burrow as the star role. I disagree with your point about Cousins completely. I came away having a ton of respect for him. He will probably my favorite part of the show.

The show has made me really like cousins. He’s just a baw who wants to hang out with the family and play ball, I respect it

This. You don’t cover every superstar in season 1 of a show that you intend to have stick around. The goal was the show a range of QB’s and their daily NFL life/experiences
