Senior year of Highschool, I worked for a Jackson Newspaper (Daily News) Sports dept. on High School sports desk two nights a week. Was on West Street headed from H-80 to the paper. I stopped in the center lane for a train coming, and a family in the curb lane didn't. I looked over and made eye to eye contact with the father, and he pulled right in the path of a train. Hit their car right in the passenger door and stopped about a quarter mile down the track. I was running down the tracks and stumbled over the guy's head. For some reason, I still made it to work that night. Almost 60 years back and I can close my eyes and see his face as he looked over at me and never even slowed down.

I was working the ER at Womack Army Hospital at FT. Bragg one night when they brought in 6 guys who parachuted out of a plane into a thunderstorm, and all bought the farm. Tough night at work.

That's on the jumpmaster and the flight crew. They never should have put those guys out the door. Huge failure on their part. Any jump with prevailing winds over 13 knots and someone is getting hurt.
