To OP, I almost always set mine at dusk and pick them up at dawn, but my prime time season is after hunting season before the heats gets cranked up (Feb-May). I’ll use beef heart but prefer deer liver when I have some. Concrete weight lines make a huge difference and I rarely lose any, and I fish tidal brackish water that moves.
