Three Keys to turning it around.

These are the three things that must happen in my opinion for lsu and les miles to right the ship so to speak.
1. Not only do we need a new dc we need a new defensive philosophy. We need to be agressive from the very first snap not just on third and long situations. Miles must realize his philosophy on defense will not cut it in this league.
2. Give the offense to Jordan Jefferson. He is much more calm and confident on the field. I don't care how lee practices he is like a deer in the headlights during the game.
3. Play the best players despite their age or class.

I don't disagree, however, the philosophy wouldn't seem near as bad without the missed assignments and poor tackling. I do want a DC that has an aggressive philosophy, but it seems to me skill/technique development and attention to detail are absolute musts.
which better players are sitting because of age?

I agree with 1 and 3, but I think we need a little more time to see what JJ is made of. I am not saying JL should be starting, but I am saying that JJ came into a game with nothing to lose... and he played well. Let's wait to see how he plays through the tough times. Truth is, we haven't gotten to see him on the field enough to know how good he really is.

I don't want to name names. I can think of two players both sophomores and both on defense who are better than the people starting in front of them.

1) I somewhat agree. You have to be aggressive, but in a smart way. You still have to maintain your gap control up front.
I totally agree on a new defensive philosphy. I never, ever liked the crap that Pelini put on the field. This year is a watered down version of that.
2) We'll see. JJ played ok. But, it's alot easier coming in, especially when your down, then starting. We have Shepard coming in mid-term and Lee got alot of valuable experience. Let the 3 of them battle it out and the best man wins.
3)Totally agree. Miles is stubborn when it comes to playing young players. But, most coaches are. There's no doubt in my mind that other players could have helped on D alot earlier.

and they are not starting strictly because of the date on their birth certificate?

Did you see how far Lsu corners were off the recievers? Any qb would have a field day against that.

The guy has one TD scoring drive and ya'll are acting like he's the best qb LSU has. Didn't he also throw an int.? We'll see what happens Fri., but I would imagine that Crowton probably knows better than anyone on this board who the better qb is.

He obviously still has a long way to go but his poise and confidence are good. He sees the field better and is not afraid to throw the ball away or tuck and run.

that's b/c his JR-type throw crushed Byrd's hands and he could hold on......that was Byrd's fault. Maybe a tad high, but VERY catchable.

from what i hear from friends that sit five rows from the field behind the LSU bench .. this is a very cliquish team with ZERO leadership .. no one on offense talks to Lee during games and there's just not much enthusiasm on the sidelines .. you have players sitting on the bench texting people ... you aren't going to fix problems if half the team doesn't give a shite ... i pin every bit of that crap on the head coach ..

I'm not in the know, but I would tend to agree with some of that T-rag.
Les sure appears to be a "loose" coach. I'm pretty sure he had that rep at Okie St.
I can say this, there were quite a few players who appeared to Quit on Sat. Every one of them should have plenty of time to text off the bench on fri because that's where I would sit them all game long.

WTF?
Are you serious? Les better get a handle on his team. That shite is uncalled for.

Not calling anyone a liar but i find the texting thing hard to believe. Did you actually see this?
Posted on 11/24/08 at 9:28 am to MFV
I find this hard to believe as well. What coach in his right mind would even allow a player to have a cell phone on the sideline?
Posted on 11/24/08 at 9:30 am to MFV
im not saying we would have won if JL dont get hurt,,, However, I do believe we score more than 13.
I think the combo of JL and JJ gives us our best opp to score points and win. With JJ alone its not gonna happen dude..sorry.

I wouldn't doubt that something like this is (was) going on! But, doesn't one of these LSU fans have a camera to prove that rumor? Actions do speak louder than words! Come on, where is the evidence?
