during the pandemic, the airlines encouraged any pilot who could retire to do so. they are probably low on real senior pilots. this raise may not hit them hard for several years. the raise is probably top heavy favoring the most senior pilots. i think this is why they cancel so many flights now. shortage of pilots.

A lot of this is catching up from their last contract. Many of the airline pilots haven't seen an increase in pay in over five years. 40% seems like a lot, but if they haven't been getting an 8-10% bump the last five years, it kinda makes sense.
