Need a rec for place in September.
Going to be downtown for a concert.
Want something cool and unique.

Not sure you’ll find cool and unique, but hotel indigo is about the best you can find. Near a lot of restaurants and usm campus.

Haven't been there in a while, but never saw a hotel "cool and unique" in Hattiesburg. Hilton Garden Inn might be your best bet.
For eating, in the past the Purple Parrot had a formal side on one side and casual on the other. Not sure if he is still there, but in the past, the bartender on the formal side was really good when eating at the bar ... I think his name was/is Terry. Well liked. He had/has been there a while. On the formal side, you don't have to dress up at the bar, those at the tables tend to. Looking at the link, they may have closed.

Terry is a Hattiesburg staple. He now has his own restaurant downtown called Buschman's. Wife has been and was very complimentary.

That is good to hear... top pro at what he does. Have not been there a good while. But if I do return, that will be where I eat. Thanks for the update.
