My grandparents did the same thing from Shreveport…Cave City to be exact. Some of my fondest memories are from spending summers and Xmas holidays up there. Great hunting and fishing all around.
It’s hard to believe the “mountains” and streams are only 1 state away.

Western Arkansas is definitely a pretty place, and some really good outdoor opportunities. Closest place to escape the flat land to Louisiana. It was our escape when I lived there.
