Yo! Did this trip last year with two kids (14 and 10) and it was fantastic.
Flew in/out Boston and wanted to check off some states.
We rented a car and headed to Rhode Island. Spent the night there, saw some sights, and headed to Portland,ME.
Stopped at Plymouth and Salem,MA along the way. Plymouth is a great little coastal town. Walked around, lunch, ice cream, and saw tRock. Very cool. Salem was lackluster. You can see the memorial of the witch trials and walk a grave yard but that’s about it. I’d pass.
Portland was great. Cool town and good eats. We went loberstering and the kids absolutely loved it.
Headed to the White Mountains in NH. Very pretty and did some light hiking. Saw a moose which is always a treat.
Went to Ben and Jerry’s in VT. No factory tour which was a bummer. Left and went to Burlington. Didn’t see much interesting there. Did get to see Lake Champlain, but that was about it. No desire to go back.
Made the trek back to Boston. Now my favorite big city. Very walkable and people were friendly. Highly recommend the hop on/hop off bus tour great history it makes it easy to get around when you don’t feel like walking. USS Constitution was cool, food in the North End is great, and of course, you have to see Fenway. Lots of other stuff as well.
Happy to share more details if you like.
