Not true anymore. There are very few schools, and BAMA is one, which have large automatic scholarships based on a certain SAT or ACT score, GPA or National Merit Finalist status. There are lots of schools using merit scholarships as bait to apply, but then awarding those scholarships as a way to diversify their class. For those who have high stats but do not qualify for financial aid, add diversity to the class, or have the means to pay full freight; schools like BAMA a great, but dwindling, option.
