For more than 10 years LSU has not attracted top young academic talent. The salaries, benefits, education for kids, and local quality of life are subpar. What LSU hires are good but not great profs coming out of good but not great universities. You find the same problem with mid-level admin such as the deans. Most did an acceptable job at 2nd-rate schools. They simply do not know how to build top-rate programs.
If Tate can flush out all the mediocre admin and replaces them with people who know quality, things will be better.
