My genuine question is: What is it about our modern lifestyle that is causing the rates of autism to increase so rapidly?
I have a family member who was diagnosed with Autism....by some doctors. Some doctors said he did not have Autism and has ADHD. Some just said he is a quirky kid but he doesn't have Autism or ADHD. This isn't an exact science. Doctors contradict each other and are making their best guesses.
This family member is graduating this December from a prominent state university in the Southeast. It isn't Harvard but it is a really good school. He has interned with a global company last summer & this summer and has a 72K base salary job waiting for him in January after he graduates. His mom registered his Autism diagnosis with his high school & university so he got extra time on the SAT, tests and assignments.
I think a lot of the rise in Autism #s are cases like this which may not be accurate by any means.

Autism isn’t a learning or cognitive disorder, it’s a social disorder. While there certainly are ASD kids with cognitive disorders, there are also kids on the spectrum that are highly intelligent (colloquially referred to as twice exceptional).
