Most all mesh systems allow for one SSID (WiFi network name) and do what is called “band steering” which is when it decides which band (2.4 or 5G) to connect your device to. This works most of the time but I don’t like to leave it up to the wireless equipment. I like to have a dedicated SSID for each band so I can ensure that all my 5G capable devices are connected to the 5G band. Nothing worse than a streaming device being put on the 2.4 band and the shite buffering all time due to interference. 2.4 band is pretty useless anyway except for WiFi printers and a bunch of random stuff like spa controllers or cheap ring cameras.

Rather than starting another thread I wanted to piggyback on this one and ask about the Eero's. They are on sale with Cyber Monday and I am looking to upgrade my Orbi RbR50 mesh system with WiFi 6. Other than the subscription con, is there anything wrong with the Eero? Do they perform well? House is 2800sqft with a bonus room above the garage.
