I’m going to get flamed to caca for this, I don’t care, it’s the very sad truth. The Dale Earnhardt of 1979, the one I interviewed that year whose neck was practically fluorescent, before Teresa and Joe Whitlock (who may have played a bigger role than Teresa) cleaned him up, would not get a pit pass or even the slightest consideration for a ride in 2023. Neither would Bobby Isaac or Lee Roy Yarbrough. And David Pearson or the Allisons would have difficulty.

Agree completely. Could add a lot more names to the list that wouldn't get a chance these days. Frankly, Junior, without the last name, likely wouldn't have. He still sounds like a hick.

Tim Richmond on the other hand would have sponsors, and teams, falling over themselves.
