Another of the more hidden ills of smart phones with kids is the lack of problem solving skills. Due to the phone, there is no longer the need to plan, coordinate, solicit help, etc.

It’s a real thing.

The number of extracurriculars, even if the dubious claim that they have increased is true, is irrelevant.
