This is really tough. I think 97 makes sense but I'd probably give it to 23 team just because they had so much adversity they had to go through and win. I don't think the 97 team could win a game 1 against LSU with Skenes on the mound as dominant as they were. It's really a back and forth between 97 and 23 team. You could maybe tie them. Would be fun to see a 3 games series between them in their prime.
If you really look at this 23 team though they were special. It almost seemed like they were going to win it no matter what we just refused to see it. Plus look at all the records they did in Omaha or records they skirted. This team was actually dominating until they hit a small skid in the last few weeks of the month until postseason came. The pitching elevation in postseason was one of the best efforts I've seen. Wes Johnson truly is the most underrated reason on this team. Looking at the roster you had 2 generational players on it and then look at guys like Morgan as some underrated gem when he has been incredible 3 years at LSU.
We're not going to know how good we had it until next season pops up without Skenes/Crews. I think Crews made it to base in every single game this season which is insane.
