Not saying there aren't some silly high bills for people who just don't know or feel like getting multiple quotes, but the trades are chock full of employees who think they could charge so much less and still make better money if they went into business for themselves. The smarter ones will realize after about 18mo that overhead is a bitch and either up their prices or close shop. The unfortunate ones will take 5+ years of mucking through thinking next year is finally going to the one where it all comes together. Of course there are the ones who realize the extreme importance of the business side and do make it. But for the 1 that is successful there are 9 that are spending the next 5 miserable years going out of business.
