I forget we said the same thing about Pog 2 years ago
I thought he was, and I still think he is Jonas was just better this time. The load of the spring season and the other marginal gains tilted it towards Jonas and away from Pog, sure. But I think Phil is downplaying the magnitude of what we saw yesterday.
Phil's arguing in the comments that improving tech, nutrition, recovery, etc. is why we're seeing superhuman efforts. That's fine and it makes some sense. But when you compare apples to apples, what Jonas is doing is an enormous anomaly. Tech improvements don't make someone gap generational riders like they're standing still in a way that no one's ever done.
Again, I don't care one bit. It seems too good to be true, but it's damn entertaining. Hell I think Lance should get his 7 tours back. Because at the end of the day you still have to get out there and ride the bike better than anyone else and that's what Jonas is doing.

That is the same argument that Team Sky apologists made before we learned about jiffy bags, abuses of TUEs, and Froome’s Salbutamol positive.
I mean, even a beloved racer like Nairo couldn’t be bothered to try hard enough not to get DQed for his positive for Tramadol. Now, Jonas isn’t beating the pants off the field just using Tramadol…but Phil is either being naive or cynical. My bet is the latter…he’s always done his best to appeal to casuals, non racers, and Freds with his schtick.
