Why would you include UT if the criteria for “legitimate titles” is post-1980? They’ve only won three since then (1983, 2002, 2005), and 2 of their “illegitimate” titles happened before USC won their second title. (USC won their second title in 1958.)

Because they continue to win and be relevant.
USC has a trash baseball program for the past 20+ years.
