It should never have become a national holiday. Just more pandering and trinkets. It doesn't help the nation in any way.

I have no problem with a holiday to celebrate the end of slavery.
The only question would have been which event would best be recognized?
I like the Juneteenth story. It is a reminder of both the 19th century and what a jubilee really should be about.
