They open terrain as soon as they can. Sometimes theres a little delay from when nature has it ready, to when lift ops and ski safety/ski patrol have enough bodies.
This year, nature is causing the delay. Warm November meant not a lot of snowmaking and then not a lot of natural snow on top of it. Runs I was on at Copper before thanksgiving last year just opened yesterday.
This is the early season.

This week will be quite warm. Hoping for fresh snow at Christmas. Always a crapshoot.
