I dove the Red Sea for several years when I worked in Saudi. World class diving with regular 100 ft plus visibility days. The areas north towards Egypt were even better with some 130 plus vis days That said without a mask your ability to see something coming at you while floating is severely limited. Dude never had a chance

I am surprised it was a tiger. Bull Sharks are nefarious for being trouble in the Red Sea on the coasts, especially in more turbid water. Pelagic white and black-tipped sharks are also problem makers on occasion as well.

That said I was more bothered by the rogue barracudas and big morays I encountered on many a spearfishing dive.
