saying that Kentucky is a team that could give LSU some fits. "The Tigers have had trouble in the 7th, 8th and 9th innings and that could be a recipe for disaster in Baton Rouge."
What about that is not true?
The previous trip to Baton Rouge for Kentucky 7th, 8th and 9th innings.
Game 1 7th and 8th (ten run rule game) LSU 2 - KU 1
Game 2 7th, 8th, and 9th LSU 4 KU 6
Game 3 7th and 8th for LSU 7th, 8th, and 9th for KU LSU 3 - KU 3
So with 7 innings for LSU and 8 for innings KU they outscored LSU by a whopping 1 run LSU 9 - KU 10
And the eighth inning was the killer, looking at the box scored it started like this.
https://www.secsports.com/boxscore/baseball/401497286
quote:
D. Burkes hit by pitch (2-2 SSBB).
J. Felker reached on a throwing error by p, SAC (1-1 BF); D. Burkes advanced to second.
N. McCarthy hit by pitch (1-0 B); J. Felker advanced to second; D. Burkes advanced to third.
Mound visit.
C. Stanke singled to center field, RBI (3-2 SSBBB); N. McCarthy advanced to second; J. Felker advanced to third; D. Burkes scored.
G. Smith flied out to cf, SF, RBI (0-1 F); J. Felker scored, unearned.
Previous play review, call is confirmed, runner did not leave 3B early.
J. Gray singled up the middle (0-1 S); C. Stanke advanced to second; N. McCarthy advanced to third.
Waldschmidt walked, RBI (3-0 BBBB); J. Gray advanced to second; C. Stanke advanced to third; N. McCarthy scored.
That was epically bad, probably one of the 3 or 4 worst innings we had. Probably the worst with Herring. Pitching has been on the upswing as it is. How often will we start the inning loading the bases without giving up a BB or a hit?
Add to that it appears pitching has improved at least a little (I'd say quite a bit) since that Kentucky series, I doubt that 7th, 8th, and 9th will be the difference in this super that gives KU the win.
