St. Augustine post aeration

Core aerated St.Aug and too dressed with masonry sand and heavy sled. Want to get it back up to 3” height. Should I cut it once or twice before it gets that tall to promote horizontal spreading.? Or just wait till it gets 3” tall.? Thanks in advance.!
