Someone's head had to roll, so I guess Nelson will play the role of the sacrificial lamb. Performance has undoubtedly been underwhelming, but it is a two-way street with player and staff being on the same page.
I'm sure Nelson had the team and Zion's best interest in mind and slow-rolled rehabilitation to prevent re-injury, however it seemed there was always a setback regardless of the prevention measures. Zion and his camp have to own their culpability and get to the root problem that his weight and style of play do not complement one another.
From a fitness perspective, I like the fact that it seems the core of the Pelicans are holing out in NOLA for the summer. As a team, they have to recognize they need to be physically stronger and more conditioned to implement the style of play the Coaches want. Hopefully, they are holding each other accountable in their respective training sessions.
