I go back and forth on the story. This one really could have benefitted from some linearity.
The memories in BotW were all fairly self-contained and nothing happening in them was directly impacting the present-day story. I appreciated them more as basically eulogies of these great warriors.
Whereas with TotK, seeing them out of order can stunt pretty much any emotional impact they might have since it's really one unified narrative, and the one big spoilery thing can be deduced long ahead of time. And once that story is resolved and you see the impact on the present-day, the continued actions of a ton of characters (especially Link) stop making sense whatsoever.
I know the game gives you the tools to view them in the correct order (which I mostly did), but I would've preferred the linearity be enforced, with certain parts only unlocking after certain things are done. It's like the one thing in the game I would have forced players to do in the "correct" order.

That could have been accomplished by finding the Tear locations and the videos play in order as you encounter them.
