I lived there almost a year. It’s pretty safe. Lots of foreign nationals, especially hot Russian chicks. Jordan is probably one of the most western countries in the area. You can drink, they have Christmas decorations at the local department stores, etc. Tell him to steer clear of Zarqa (a suburb) though.

As the poster above stated, Wadi Rum, Aqaba, the Dead Sea, and Petra are must visits. If he’s a Roman history fan, then Jerash is also a must-see.

avoid Zarqa and avoid Ma'an. fortunately, they are both kind of off the beaten path, so they are easy to avoid.

100% go to Wadi Rum and spend a night in the desert with the bedouins. best thing we did there.
