Reach out to friends and family. Seek professional help. I won't lie and say it's easy, but it can get better and good Lord is it worth living. I'm on my 19th free year after 20 year old me panicked and jerked the wheel away from the trees I was driving 100mph towards.
For everyone else talking about cowardice or bravery, you have to know the mindset of the depressed and suicidal. I won't tell you it's cowardly or brave, but I will tell you it takes guts and determination. When you're suicidal and depressed you get trapped in this warped logic that you are a burden and that the people you love would be better off if you weren't there anymore. Most people who are genuinely struggling and on the edge aren't thinking about punishing others, they're thinking everyone else would be happier if they weren't around. I know that's a crazy leap of logic that is difficult for most people who are in their right mind to understand, but that's the trap of depression and suicide. You feel caught in this loop of logic where everyone will be happier when you're gone. The people who love you know it isn't true, but it's very difficult for you to see it.
I've lost several friends to suicide, and almost lost myself to it as well. Robin Williams words are incredibly true here, be kind to everyone around you because you never know what people are struggling with in that moment. Again, if you're thinking of suicide reach out to your loved ones, talk to your doctors, and take small steps towards breaking the bad logic loop. It's painful, and risky, and embarrassing, and frustrating and a whole lot of other things but good God is it worth it.
