Objectively, facing White is a better option than facing Crews in a vacuum, but I don’t believe your chances of being down by 1 with White and bases loaded is higher than your chances of being down by 1 facing Crews with a guy on 1st and 2nd, and, I’ve got to imagine the expected runs are even higher given the added rubber in scoring position. I believe the math would say walking Crews was the wrong decision, but I’m too lazy to look more into it.

Of course the run probability with a guy on 3rd will be higher. But They didn’t want to lose with crews at the plate. White had had a rough day. It was the right move
