I can speak to this as someone who used to practice landscape architecture in the area and did a lot of municipal projects. Maintenance is the Achilles heel of all good designs. It is especially a problem in LA. Every time I'm back down there and check up on old projects, they a lot of times look like shite because nothing has been maintained. It's frustrating because we worked hard to make them as maintenance-free as possible, yet LA still manages to frick it up.

The “landscaping” under the Perkins overpass area was a bad idea from the start and looks even worse than I imagined.
