I’ve canoed around a lot of a GA and N FL rivers. They usually are pretty DGAF. I have also inner tubes in some N FL rivers, and you usually find in the springs part of the river, but be more circumspect once it gets swampy. I have had far more close calls with moccasins. Also rattlesnakes are excellent swimmers.

Fish/swam/boat around alligators all the time but the first moc I see, it’s time to wrap it up. My dad and his padna had two Mocs fall from a tree into a Jon boat in the atchafalaya back in the 70’s. His padna unloaded 5 rounds from a 357 at them. Missed the snakes but sank the boat. They spent the night in the swamp. When it starts raining Mocs I’m done

i straight up will not kayak in the bays anymore because of this. they aren't looking to attack, but they are relentless in their pursuit to hop on board with you.
