To put the slugging percentage in context for you:

A slugging percentage of 1.000 would equal one base attained per each at bat.

A slugging percentage of 2.000 would equal two bases attained per each at bat.

etc.

Since a player makes an out a good percentage of the time (a .300 hitter gets a hit in 3 of 10 at bats and makes 7 outs in the same 10 at bats) a slugging percentage of .988 is outstanding. A slugging percentage of .450+ in the major leagues means the player has had a great season batting with power.

An OPS (On Base Percentage + Slugging Percentage) of .988 is outstanding in professional baseball (across all levels). To have achieved that as a Slugging Percentage is other=worldly.

So how did you arrive at .988 for the slugging %. ?
