People are desperate for fight, for leadership, for something that explains the stupid world around them.

With Trump you get fight. You get some brand of leadership. You get endless theories of why things are they way they are that are easy to digest.

Trump didn't lose because the people across the street have been brainwashed to support progressivism, some computer server in Germany altered their results.

You get purpose, you get a brand (hats, etc.) you get slogans, you get community (rallies). People are lost and desperate for something of value and they think they find it in Trump. I genuinely get the attraction, but it's fools gold and the payoff hasn't really been there in a long time. But even if Trump does show more signs of success soon, he's a very, very flawed person and I wish good people would stop putting their hopes into someone who only reciprocates when doing so brings glory to himself.

Good post. I enjoyed the run from 2016-2019. Trump was basically memed into the White House and did well to fight Russiagate and Ukraine impeachment and keep the economy humming. COVID absolutely crushed him, though. I don't think anyone can really beat the bureacrats. Four more years of Trump would just be four more years of lies and leaks from guys like Strzok, Vindman, Ciamarella, and Milley. Maybe it's naive, but I think DeSantis can convert a few people with TDS and navigate the swamp better. This piece really snapped me out of my trance. The system was built to keep any one person in check, even if we don't like it.
The Triumph of the Centre.

Trump has always been more of an influencer and his successes and record are getting further and further in the rearview mirror. He is great at broad brush ideas and communicating that effectively to his mass of supporters. However, the combativeness and personal attributes that served him well on the campaign trail didn't serve him well in the actual business of governance.

I just find Trump to be a pale imitation of the 2015 version and the message is just lacking and it's all about his greviances at this point. I just don't see him as the solution going forward and I think his supporters are nostalgic for something that is no longer there.
