Doing manual labor all your life requires your body to stay strong. You use your muscles daily. Pain comes with old age. Even for the strong. But the strong will keep doing things until they die.

I tried outside sales for awhile. The money was fine but I got tired of motels and it was killing my body. I was 45 when I started after having worked physically until then. Both my shoulders froze within a year and a half. I'd never heard of a frozen shoulder. Did rehab with the first one and learned the exercises and stretches and did it myself on the other one. I went back to physical work and have never stopped.
