just want to say first, as someone who struggles with mental health, that I know first hand what it is like to daily battle against this.

My question for y’all today is why do you think mental health in our society has declined so much over the years? For example, think back to our grandparents era, say the 1940’s. Obviously antidepressants didn’t exist back then. I know the field of psychology was around, but did people during that time have therapy options like we do today?

I get that there has always been depressed people throughout history. I get that anxiety has always been around. Do you feel like mental health struggles are just a lot more amplified today because it is so much out in the open?

What are your thoughts on this

I think that back in the day, they coped with it by drinking too much. I am sure my dad was bi polar. He would periods of being real happy then mad real fast. But felt bad about it after an hour.

People that don't have mental health issues always have an excuse. They say suck it up. Your too soft or some other bullshite to try to shame you.

I was told years ago by doctors I was bi polar. I told them bullshite and get another Dr. I never wanted to admit it. Would have extreme highs and lows. Suicide thoughts all the time, but I have a great family and wouldn't do that to them. Meds work but the side effects suck. Make you an emotional zombie with no feelings.

I know we have some tough ole baws on here that say everybody should be like John Wayne and suck it up. But it doesn't work that way. Trust me I know. I tried that for many years and all it did was effect the people around me. When you bad lows you hate everything and and everybody even yourself. Like you are a prisoner inside your head but can't control yourself the only way to describe it. I am sure I'll get mocked by many here but it is what it is. you can't make people change their mind about it if the are dead set on the views.
