I have a Whites MXT Pro that I bought specifically for civil war relic hunting and have found lots of stuff with it. It was around $900 in 2013 but it was worth every penny. Very powerful and useful. Like others have said, get a pinpointer also. I use a Garrets one and it saves a ton of time.

The best detector I’ve owned was their Eagle Spectrum. So hot on silver and incredibly customizable programming. I don’t know why White’s went out of business in 2020 but they did. I would suggest buying up accessories like battery packs for your MXT Pro because they’re going to get harder and harder to find.
