the umpire ultimately calls the game over, not the coaches.
That is not true for a suspended game. If a game has not gone the regulation 7 complete innings the umpire can suspend it, but it ultimately falls on the coaches/administration to come to an agreement on how to handle the game. "Halted", "No Contest", or "Completed". Ole Miss had every right to not agree to the other options causing it to default to a "Completed" game. As it is a non-conference game there are no conference rules to abide by and if like most contracts for these games the contract probably defaulted to Home teams decision unless it interfered with Visiting teams travel rules. Not wrong, but not exactly right either.
