My dad was born there and he and my mom visited a few years ago. They said Dracula’s Castle has sort of a tourist trap feel and Peles is nicer. You’ll probably go to both though.

One of the best trips we ever took. Did it a couple of years ago. We went with another couple and hired a guide for the week. He picked us up in Bucharest, took us to Brasov and then we did side trips each day. Here's the itinerary we took. Booked the guide through Tours By Locals. Was a great experience.

Some Selected Photos!

I don't think you necessarily need to use Cosmin but this was our itinerary and loved it.

My name is Cosmin.

I am a passionate guide and I will be a more than glad to create an amazing experience for You.

All the settings will be included here on a customized tour for You to book it here on Tours by Locals.
1. My first suggestions:

day 1- 3 apr-I will pick You up from Bucharest airport. We will use Brasov as a base and we will visit the soroundings of Brasov. Generally we will include ,
day 2 - 4 th of April- Brasov guided Tour- Rupea Fortress - Sighisoara.

day 3 -5-th of April Cristian Fortified Church- Bran Castle And a Village experience In Fundata- The Highest villages of Transylvania-TRansylvanian Highlands. Please Open the link attached for more details.

day 4- 6th of April- For Sibiu we need a separate day, I will think for interesting activities. Something Nice.
Please take notice that I am a nature guide and we have the option to enjoy time and a picnic in nature on a tematic nature walk , and for the evening we can go to the wildlife observatory to see the Bears. You will enjoy This if chosen!!

day 5 - 7 th of April we have to leave early to be able to visit Peles Castle from Sinaia. The tour will end with drop-off in Bucharest, if there is any remaining time we will enjoy a walking Tour In Bucharest.

Tour Cost review for 4 persons.

Generally speaking. Guiding and car will be provided on 160 eur /day. Additional to this Fuel cost will be added and other optional activites that You will agree to include in this tour. Entrance fees will be payed separately during our tour.

We need a safe and performant car for Romania roads, so I will be picking You With a Vw Sharan 2016 clean and spacious, with all the comfort needed.

If you agree I will start preparing our customized Tour for You to Book It here On Tours By Locals. Also I am open to any other suggestions or preferences!

SUPER HELPFUL, NoleMan! Thanks!

Just knowing Brasov is a good hub from which to tour Transylvania is gold. Thanks again.

Feel free to ask any questions you might have. Happy to help.

I'll "level set" for you...

It is a country of great contrasts. A true "cultural immersion" type of trip. A country of vast beauty, yet very poor. The main national highway to Brasov, for example, was literally a one lane road for many miles. Vendors selling stuff off the side of the road. Great food and wine. CHEAP. Transylvania was beautiful. I liked Bran Castle BTW. And Peles Castle is spectacular. Didn't really like Bucharest. The Old Town area was really cool though.

A real concern about Russia and their interests in Moldova, which Romanians view as part of their country still.

Cluj Napoca is a cool city in Transylvania. Do a walking tour of the Old Town and visit the salt mines.

Wife is Romanian and we go quite a bit. I don't have a ton of suggestions for food or lodging. We usually wing it on restaurants, and use booking.com for apartments when we travel.

There are a lot of fun festivals and events in the spring in Romania, so you might want to see if you can time your stays in different towns around the events.

In general I recommend getting guides wherever you are. Not necessary, but I think it will improve your experience.

Salina Turda (The salt mine) near Cluj is definitely worth visiting if you are in that part of the country.

Salina Turda

The Keys of Turda are beautiful and a nice little hike nearby. If you are at the salt mine, it's not too far away.

Turda Keys

Sighisoara is worth a day trip, possibly a overnight. It is a well preserved Saxon town and a Unesco world heritage site.
Sighisoara

Brasov is worth a visit and could be a good home base.
Brasov

Bran Castle (inspired Bram stokers dracula) is a short bus ride away.
Bran Castle

Rasnov Citadel is also nearby and was a lot of fun.
Rasnov Fortress

Peles Castle is in Sinaia, and completely amazing. Sinaia is great for a night or two.
Peles Castle

Corvin's Castle in Hunedoara was incredible, but the town isn't much too look at. Day trip at most.
Corvins Castle

There's another town near Brasov that I likes but can't remember the name. I'll add it if it comes to me.

Eta: the town is Sibiu. Really cool medieval town. There was a music festival in the main square when we were there, lots of good food, etc.
Sibiu

If you’re heading to Romania and looking for a mix of relaxation and comfort, staying near the beach could balance out the bustling tours of castles and cities. I’ve done similar trips, and having a peaceful base can really make the difference after a day of sightseeing. One spot I recommend checking out in Eforie Nord is this hotel. It’s a cozy place with modern amenities, plus it’s close to the beach and not far from the city center, making it ideal for unwinding after your adventures.
