The whole marketing thing is baffling to me because they are targeting the opposite demographic of those with the most disposable income. I have never really let advertising drive my purchases but I am now paying attention to what companies won't be getting my money.

Not really though. When the government pays your mortgage, the government buys your food with EBT, you get free or discounted services on everything TV, internet, cell service , etc... You get a welfare check and sell dope when not playing video games. Your disposable income is pretty good

You’re looking at it wrong

Why would a car insurance company advertise to white people when we all have car insurance already? But what if there was an untapped market were very few of the ones to be advertised to had car insurance?
