in a place where guns are not permitted. It is illegal to possess a firearm (permitted or not) at a parade, in the FQ or anywhere where alcohol is involved. This is to prevent the unintentional discharge of weapon due to the crowd and intoxication of the person carrying or those around that person. The act of existing along with the gun is what is illegal. The charges have already been dropped - as they were dropped for the other dozens of people arrested for the same thing this weekend, but that is where there is a problem. Criminals in New Orleans, are being taught the lesson that they can get away with breaking the law with little consequence. This leads to more crime and is part of the reason that New Orleans is the murder capital of the United States. Our DA, Jason Williams doesn't enforce the law and many citizens think that they can get away with murder - often times this is the case. I don't believe Malik had any nefarious intent and was planning on doing anything other than protecting himself, but he broke the law and possessed his gun in a place where he should not have been possessing it. It's pretty clear cut. I'm glad Malik won't be going to jail or be prosecuted - but I'm also sad for the police who are understaffed and trying to enforce the law but are not getting any support from the District Attorney.

Guess what the criminals don’t care. What that place needs is more good people with guns. Criminals would care about that.
