Anyone know how to make an image look like a cattle brand. I've searched for tutorials, but can't find much.

I'm try to do it to this image of the Alamo if that helps.

If you want to make it as a brush in photoshop--

Go to Select-->All-->then; Edit-->Define Brush Preset-->name the brush and click OK

What do you want it to look like it was branded on? Cowhide? or a piece of leather? I've got a couple of ideas, want to try them out first....

Here's a pretty easy method for you to try--

just set the layer you want to brand ontop of the layer you want branded and then set the brand layer on Overlay or Screen--> adjust the Opacity to your liking-->right click the brand layer and make a Innershadow-->then take the Burn Tool and go over the brand to darken it.

Try leather. I think it's supposed to be a "Texas" theme.

This may surprise you, but I tried this already. You couldn't really notice a difference. It would probably work with a basic image, but this one is too detailed, which I'm not sure how to change.

Actually, I didn't set the brand layer to "Overlay" or "Screen". I just put the layer on top of the "branded" layer. Does it make that big of a difference?

I'm about to go to work, so I won't be able to work on this til tonight, but I was thinking something in this direction may work....

Try that again (what BigEasy suggested)... but simplify the Alamo by taking unnecessary detail out of the original image then using the "posterize" filter (with high detail on the slider) to get the edges the way you want.

Overlay that image onto a detailed image of a piece of cloth, maybe sand.... something with a slight grain or pattern.... that is already brown in color. Darken it as much as you'd need without losing the "grain" you want. Select your new Alamo and use to make your "brand" on the leather.

Bevel/Emboss perhaps to get some depth...

I may be way off - hope this doesn't waste your time....

Damn... that's good looking shite. What about making the background (the branded leather) a lot lighter. Like canvas or something like that... if that makes any sense.

Yeah. That looks great. Thanks.

Any way to keep the original large size?

I followed pretty much the same process I described earlier, only I didn't use the neutral texture image.

Filter - Poster Edges

Get rid of extra details

Bevel and Emboss/Burn Tool to finish.....

Wow. That's awesome. Anyway to make it larger? My step brother is using this for some full page advertisement (Don't worry, I plan on showing him who did the work)

Thanks.

Yeah - not a problem.... I'm about to go to work (again).... Have a double shift today so I won't be home til after 9 or 10 tonight... I'll do it again from scratch when I get home. Off most of the day tomorrow, so we can keep an eye out for eachother and I can get you a high res version.

I used to be in advertising some years back... Still do some freelance work for friends. What type of publication is the ad going to run in, just curious...

Find out from your brother what format suits him the best, if he wants it RGB or CMKY or whatever... TIFF w/color profile included? Does he want "just the brand" or on the leather... Any other details which may be useful.

Glad you like it.

Whoops. Sorry. Forgot about this thread for a sec.

I want to say a year book type (for NSU), but I'm not really sure. I didn't ask.

This is the whole image he sent me. LINK
(Its pretty big).

He just suggested the cattle brand, but said they are going for a "Texas" theme.

Honestly, he sent me the file originally in .pspimage format. I don't think he would know what the hell you were talking about. Pretty sure he's just looking for a large (I think it's supposed to be a full page ad) image.

Thanks for all the help.
