It’s been my experience that those who are actually responsible for the planning and execution of real operations pay very little, if any, attention to that side bullshite that doesn’t produce a single profitable commodity.

This wasn't directly oil field but same type of people

I just had a meeting at a job site that was one of the more impressive new locations i've seen but it is still under construction

One of the owning partners (~70 years old ex armed forces no doubt) met with me to go over a relatively small part of the operations. Going to needed daily but more a necessary evil than a profit generator. Something that i usually meet with an Ops manager to go over, especially at a company with this amount of money.

We met in a trailer that looked like he has been living in it. He is smoking a cig, with a loaded pistol in his lap. Not a gun guy, but didn't look cheap. He proceeds to accurately tell me everything I need to do. Almost word for word what i was about to tell him. Hands me a copy of the US constitution before proudly showing me the facility and sending me on with my day
