I wasn't a bad kid and didn't get many. In fact I don't think I ever got spanked for misbehaving. Mine were for bad grades. And I had bad grades (Bs and Cs) because I was smart but lazy and hated homework. I'd rather read books about what I was interested in rather than study school work.

And I definitely deserved those spankings. I could have put forth 15% more effort and had straight As.

But there's one spanking that I remember, and I didn't deserve it.

We were having a crawfish boil and all the family and friends were at the house. All the kids were running around the back yard and acting like caffeine Tazmanian Devils. The adults were sitting on the patio visiting, drinking, and watching us. I was on the monkeybars attempting some crazy stunt where I swung from a rope over to the swing set, let loose and flew through space to grab the other rope we had.

I missed the rope, barely, getting one hand on it. This caused my feet to fly up as my head and body went down. I landed flat on my back, knocking the wind out of me. My dad happened to see the whole thing and heard the "WHUMPH" when I hit.

He ran over to check on me and was asking me if I was OK. I had the wind knocked out of me and was struggling to talk. Just sputtering. He said "you better go inside and see your mom about this". I could see that he was actually worried. I was coming around and tried to say something to ease his worries. But in my stunned state, what came out was "I don't have to". Like I was sassing him.

I can see his face like it was yesterday, it went from shock and worry to anger immediately. Here he was worried that his son had snapped his back, and the little shite had talked back to him.

He yanked me up by the arm and started whipping me in a circle. You all know that little dance. We went round around about 5 or 6 times, him swatting my arse while I tried to run while also trying to explain that I meant "I'm OK, I don't need to go to mom"

We still laugh about it to this day. In fact, I think about it every time I boil crawfish.
