My dad wasn’t an overbearing strict dad. But there were expectations on how we were to behave. And he was not shy of handing out arse whippings if those expectations were not merry.

One time I acted up in class when I was in second grade, my mom was also a teacher at my elementary school so she got the news quick if any of us misbehaved. Dad was my baseball coach all throughout my childhood so my mom would often bring us to practice. One of my teammate’s dad had an empty warehouse that he let my dad use as a crude indoor practice facility and it was next door to my dad’s office.

So I had baseball practice there the day I acted up. Mom took me to practice after school and told me to wait in the lobby. She went back to my dad’s office and told him what happened at school. I had my back turned to the hallway he walked out of and he wrapped me upside the head with his leather padfolio. Knocked my arse to the ground in a hurry.
