The non-instructional day tends to lend to better planning during the week and a lot of staff in counties I've seen do it are able to bring in small groups of students for one on one extra service work.
So the stressed teachers still have to work on mondays? I get they can calmly plan and do the paper work in peace, but they still have to get up and go and put their kids somewhere, right? And how do these kids who need help get to school? They get a bus ride or lunches for that? I know that means still fewer buses and drivers, etc., but still. But i agree with closing Mondays for friday night games. How would kids get there to practice during the day or get there for away trips that leave early as normally they would already be there? Plus a lot of holidays are on Monday anyway. I have no real rat in the race as my kids are grown and I am not a teacher, thank goodness for both these days.

The current system is set up to benefit employees, not children.
It will continue going that way because of the power the unions have.
